Well, its been a busy month since the last post, and many of our new instruments are starting to arrive at the school. I saw our new room in the Performing Arts Complex, and it is AWSOME!!! I can't wait to start teaching in there. It has been fun meeting so many students interested in music, but I know there are more of you out there, so come and sign up with us in the gym, or ask your counselor if they can put you in a music class.
Thanks,
Harwell

Almost 2 years ago today, I started a rally posting on the old LHS Alumni site to bring back to the Cardinal campus, some kind of music program. In my quest, I made contact with the LHSA staff, LHS school staff, the school board, and the City of Lawndale staff, to include the Mayors office. I did this via e-mails and messages.

Some of my tactics and the manner in which I went about all this at times did not go over very well with so many, but my heart was deeply saddened that this kind of program did not exist their at Lawndale High so I blasted many for the lack of support. I was criticized in the process, bashed, and simply put, was told to stand down. That this would never happen.

Well, I would like to say to all who thought this was an un achievable milestone for our children, and simply a dream, LOOK OUT, here stands today our very proud Cardinal band members and musicians, and with a music program for future generations to come. My heart goes out to all of you, and especially to Mr. Hartwell for job well done.

Congratulations to all of you who participated in achieving a milestone that so many of us past Cardinal band alumni's wanted to see come true. You have our deepest love, our hearts and support. I would like to share the e-mails from over 50 LHS Alumni's that actually wrote to me in support of this and their pledge of donations to all of you. I believe that all of you should see the love you had when all this started 2 years ago. I believe you should tell them all thank you and that you will make them all so very proud.

Thank you for making a dream come true!

I made a promise that if this came true, that I would have an LHS band banner made, and to fly down to see our young Cardinal children march on the streets once again. I am a man of my word. A beautiful band banner is currently being designed and will be delivered to Lawndale High School on or before 10-30-2007... Look for it !!!

I look forward to seeing all of you blowing up the streets of Lawndale once again!

Go Cardinal Spirit...Go Cardinal Band.....Make us Proud !!!

Stand tall my young Cardinal.

Stay the course. This is fresh, new, and long awaited. You will be part of history in the making if you just believe in the Cardinal sprit, Mr. Harwell, and the program...

Mr. Miranda,

Thank you for your support of a music program at Lawndale High School my son is in the 11th grade, He has taken private piano and drum lessons. He is currently enrolled in the guitar class. Your encourangement for a band has been a blessing to my son and other students. May God's blessing be with you.

Hey People,
Word to those who listen.
Keep playing and try to get good!
Try using your ears more than your eyes (except sight-reading ((no 'Ray Charles' jokes please)) and spend time learning your horn (instrument). Figure out what your horn sounds like now and what you want it to really sound like; develop your OWN sound! Be able to 'scat' orally and mentally the lines you want to play on horn. etc. etc. (More lectures and lessons on demand.)
Last thought -
Hey teachers - Teach!
Hey students - Learn!
Get back to the Basics and steer lear of the B.S.

Good Luck,

Hey People -
Stick to the music (good music)
and steer clear of the B.S.
Learn your instrument and figure out what kind of sound you want it to produce.
Get good and then work together and then you will have a band.
Listen, really listen and then you will have a chance of getting it!
Music Teachers - Teach!
Music Students - Learn!
